Dr. Maria Belu grew up in Romania and Canada and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from THE Ohio State University in May of 2016.
She fell in love with veterinary medicine as a young child spending her summer's on her grandparents farm and frequently brought home strays much to her mother's chagrin. Her love continued to grow during vet school where she had numerous opportunities to travel and work in places like South Africa, Ethiopia and Thailand. There she spent time observing dog behavior and teaching spay and neuter clinics. Upon graduating from vet school she pursued a master's in public health and become board certified in Veterinary Preventive Medicine in 2019.
Her interests include canine and feline behavior, fear free handling, dermatology, exotic medicine and anesthesia/surgery.
Dr.Belu has three cats named Agatha Christie, Phryne Fisher, and her youngest is a flame point siamese mischief maker named Frankenstein. In her free time she loves to read, garden, play video games and has recently begun sourdough baking. She also loves to travel. She moved to Huntsville two years ago from Charlotte North Carolina to be closer to her friends and partner and has fallen in love with the city
